"Seneca Junction Chorus" of Salamanca, NY, takes 2nd place at District Contest, Fall 2009

Under the direction of Skip Berenguer, the Seneca Junction Chorus placed second this past weekend at Churchville-Chili Senior High School in Rochester, NY.  This Seneca Land District Competition was held for the right to represent the District in Philadelphia, June 28th through July 4th, 2010, at International Competition.  This all male accappella chorus, registered with the Barbershop Harmony Society, was awarded their 6th Plateau "A" Level Championship, given to the best chorus with under 34 men.

24 talented men took the stage dressed as "river rats" and sang a wonderfully artistic song called "MIssissippi Mud" followed by a dramatic ballad called "When Day Is Done".  Each of the men dressed like someone that would be found working in the fields of Mississippi;  having bare feet,  wearing tattered pants, rumpled shirts, suspenders, hats, and covered in mud and grime, just like you would find in the hot, muddy South.  There was even a chorus member fishing from, and sitting on, a dock built by chorus member Bob Spencer (thanks Bob!) that extended from the risers.  It was truly wonderful to see and watch. The audience loved the choreographed song and their applause seemed to last forever.

The second song, "When Day is Done", was a very powerful, dramatic piece, which seemed to take the listeners on a journey through someone's life, as if they missed their significant other or loved one, due to death or break-up. The rise and fall of Seneca Junction's voices made people take notice.  Applause erupted after a moment of silence, as the audience was taken aback by the quality of the song they just heard. Director Skip Berenguer beamed with pride as he accepted the audience applause and then stepped back to direct the applause towards his chorus.  It was truly one of the finest performance packages of the entire afternoon.

There were 12 choruses from all across the Seneca Land District competing in Rochester for the right to represent SLD in Philadelphia, July 2010. Those 12 choruses were:  "Seneca Junction Chorus", Salamanca, NY; "The Vocal Agenda", Batavia, NY; "New Horizons Chorus", Mohawk Valley, NY; "Friends of Harmony", East Aurora, NY; "Chorus of the Genesee", Rochester, NY; "Southerntiersmen", Binghamton, NY; "Finger Lakes Chorus", Geneva, NY; "Harmony Express", Jamestown, NY;  "Lake Erie Sound", Erie, PA; "Mark Twain", Mark Twain, NY; "Maple City Chorus", Hornell, NY; and "Yesterday's Sound", Crawford County, PA.  All choruses are registered with the Barbershop Harmony Society
.  "Good Luck" to The Vocal Agenda, from Batavia, NY, for being this years District Representative to Philadelphia in July 2010.
